Bristol Hippodrome
Project – Repairs and decorations to the façade of the grade II listed theatre
Value – £250,000
Duration – 10 months
Complete – April 2024
Bristol Hippodrome opened in 1912 and since then has played host to a variety of musicals, including popular West End shows like Hamilton and the Welsh National Opera.
In March 2023, ATGE appointed structural engineers to carry out a façade survey and their report highlighted priority items and work needed to solve them.
ARK23 were called upon in July 2023 to gather a design team and put together a tender for the repair and redecoration works to the façade. This required listed building consent and various permits to erect scaffolding. Works started on 4th March 2024 and completed on 27th April 2024.
The scope of works included:
• Joint repointing
• Replacement of lead flashing in the canopy
• Repairs to cracks and spalling to the concrete
• Specialist stonework cleaning
• Repair, replacement and decoration of windows
• Specialist repairs to decorative panels
• Woodwork decorations
